About Us

Since opening its doors in 1971, a visit to the nationally renowned Fire Museum of Maryland has been an exciting, valuable, and educational experience. Children and adults, students and teachers can learn about fire safety and prevention. If your interests run deeper, you’ll want to explore more than 40 antique fire engines dating from1806-1957, visit a working fire alarm office, take an audio guided tour on the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 or stop by the Museum Store. The children’s Discovery Room provides an opportunity to literally sit in the driver’s seat of a 1938 fire engine as well as put on turnout gear! The educational programs of the museum are dedicated to hands-on learning experiences that align with Maryland’s Curriculum Standards for Social Studies and Federal Next Generation Science Standards. In our STEM Labs, students explore the history of firefighting and put scientific concepts into practice to solve problems faced by the fire service.

Hours

The Museum is open on Saturdays year-round from 10am to 4pm, and Wednesday through Saturday in June, July, and August, and extra days at the end of the year.

Birthday Parties and Rentals

Families will enjoy birthday parties for children with add-ons like fire engine rides and a visiting firefighter. The Fire Museum of Maryland provides a unique venue for children and adults alike to have a fun event. Businesses can rent our facility for corporate events and parties.

Groups

Groups can reserve tours for any time of day and any day of the week, excluding holidays and special events.

Tours

The museum offers four education programs for K-8th grade students and Scouts. Two Social Studies programs align with Maryland’s Curriculum Standards. Two STEM programs provide hands-on opportunities to explore scientific concepts. Additional activities like a fire rescue game, visiting firefighter, and space to eat lunch are available upon request.

The Museum offers five adult-oriented tours on the Great Baltimore Fire, decorative arts, and the fire alarm telegraph office, among other topics.
