About Us

The Irish Railroad Workers Museum and Shrine is a historic site that celebrates the history of the immense Irish presence in Southwest Baltimore City. Our Museum presents a restored family home, circa 1870, and includes historical displays and presentations that explore how the Irish found work, established homes, educated their children, shopped and socialized, and worshipped freely within a supportive ethnic community. We are the only original 19thcentury, urban, working-class house museum in the United States. The Irish Railroad Workers Museum and Shrine is the centerpiece of a larger historic district that includes the B&O Railroad Museum, St. Peter the Apostle Church, the Hollins Street Market, and St. Peter the Apostle Cemetery, and is a project of the Railroad Historical District Corporation, a non-profit organization.
