The Mother Seton House on Paca Street and Old Saint Mary's Seminary Chapel

About us:

Elizabeth Ann Seton and her children came from New York to this Federal style house in 1808. She founded the U.S. parochial school system here, and took her vows as a Catholic Sister in the adjacent Old Saint Mary's Seminary Chapel to found the American Sisters and Daughters of Charity. She was canonized as the first U.S. native Saint in 1975. Now referred to as the Mother Seton House, it was restored in the 1960's to its original appearance and continues to be operated as a museum.
